2 teaspoons baking powder                                                           batches)

125 g /4  oz caster sugar                                                               utensils

salt                                                                                              1 large mixing bowl

1 orange or lemon                                                                          1 wooden spoon

1 egg                                                                                             1 vegetable brush

2  tablespoons groundnut or corn oil                                              1 grater

1 litre/1  pints cooking oil                                                              1 plate or clean tea towel

200 g/7 oz granulated  sugar                                                         1 rolling pin 

                                                                                                   pastry cutters or a pastry

                                                                                                       wheel or sharp knife 

                                                                                                  1deep chip pan or stove-top

                                                                                                         casserole

                                                                                                   1 perforated  spoon

                                                                                                   absorbent kitchen paper

                                                                                                    1 large deep serving dish
